Happy New Year!

The new year is almost here and if you didn't know it is going to be '2010, Year of the Connor'. To mark this occasion here is his manifesto! Or it is a video of him not really crawling but propelling himself forward on his play mat.

One Year

Today it's been one year since we saw this...

We had been going through fertility treatments as most everyone knows and 11/21/08 was our 'testing day'. We never tested early, even though we could and I should've, but it was really a wonderful day. We spent today shopping and getting all kinds of things four month old babies need - and being grateful that we have had such an amazing year.

Happy Halloween!

Connor enjoyed his first Halloween yesterday, he certainly made the most of it. He had a full week of of Halloween outfits including his pumpkin onsie, the I Love Mummy shirt, his Boo! Outfit, the halloween sleeper with punkin hat and of course the costume! Introducing our little turkey...

We had a fun time with all the grandparents - Scott made the famous beer chili and we had cornbread and a very delicious apple crisp. Tomorrow is my first day back to work and Connor's first full day with the cousins. We are looking forward to getting into a 'normal' routine as the holidays are upon us.

Pumpkin for our lil' punkin

Last weekend we took Connor to Beasley's Orchard in Danville for his first trip to the pumpkin patch. It was a bit chilly but with plans this weekend it was our last chance to go before Halloween. Here are are a few photos from the day...

We also had Connor's follow up sleep study at Riley on Tuesday, we won't have the results back until next week. I had a supposedly 'minor' outpatient surgery on Friday that turned into an overnight visit at Hendricks Regional so we are all recouperating while watching the Colts run over St. Louis. Needless to say it's been quite an eventful week!

We will be enjoying my last week of leave this week while Scott is home on vacation. We're starting to get a routine together as a little family and we couldn't be happier. :-)

Almost done...

Well mommy is on the way home and both Connor and I made it through the day!

Next up is Grandma Nella and Grandpa Vinnie will look after Connor while Jaime and I go out for our anniversary dinner!

Oprah

Time for Oprah and a show on hoarders...

So far so good!

Well it is around 3 and so far it has been a busy day with the Connor man.  After he had his lunch it was time for some play we hung out in the Swing but then next up was the Bumbo.  The felines of the family were a tad jealous and had to come up and see what was going on and Connor stared at them as they walked past.

Next was was another wonderful bottle of formula and then we tried to nap in the crib instead of one of the swings.  We got it cleaned off and he was wrapped up and put down for his nap.  He was really interested in the mobile but it kept him awake so we turned it off and fired up the Rain Forest toy.  That did the trick and he was out like a light!  He slept just lone enough for daddy to jump in the shower and get cleaned up!

Daddy was going to settle in for a little Hellboy II on the old DVR and just got his command center set up.  See the little monitor next to the Mac?  I felt like such the parent...

Daddy then thought since he was in such a deep sleep that his oxygen should be put on him and that is when things got ugly... Daddy put on the nose clip for the oxygen but he didn't care for that at all and started to fuss and fight.  Also with his arms out he was able to pull the canal off and get it off his face.  At that point he was awake, hungry and ticked off so it was wake up time for the Connor.

Well he got his bottle and things are calmed back down for the time being.  Hellboy is playing, daddy is going to get some ice cream and the little bear cub is relaxing in his bouncy!

Check back after a bit~

Naptime

Connor is out so I'm going to clean and watch some TV. But I've found out there is nothing on this time of the day... I should not have erased those old Family Guys off the DVR...

Alone with Daddy for the day

Scott here. Jaime is at a conference for the day and this will be my first full day of baby sitting Connor.

Alone.
Ever.

During the day I'm going to give an update so mommy can find out how the day went...
Little dude woke up around 8:45 and after a minute of playing it was noticed that he was in the need of a diaper change and then breakfast for Connor!!!!

Following a delicious breakfast of homemade pancakes, bacon and toast pureed into the bottle Connor was ready to face the day. (Please note pancakes, bacon and toast = formula) Here he is following a diaper change and dressed for the day.

It is now about 10 and we are playing on the couch and I think it is getting close to his first nap time of the day.

We will check in during the day! Yoshi says "This is going to be a long day..."

Happy two months to me!

Connor had his two month 'anniversary' of his birthday this week on Tuesday. Things are going well with the monitor and the oxygen, we have gotten somewhat used to it. The monitor hasn't gone off at all so that is good. He is on the oxygen at night and we will be adding his morning nap in this week. He doesn't like it AT ALL but we know it's the best option so we will keep it up until we get the all clear from the docs. He has a follow up nap study October 20th and hopefully he will have grown enough the stop the oxygen, fingers crossed.

We also had his two month well baby visit and he got his first round of vaccines. He did not like them! I tried to tell him it was no big deal since I gave myself two shots a day the entire time I was pregnant but sympathy wasn't for him. He was shocked at first, then he took a deep breath and wailed like we haven't heard before. Even though he fell asleep right afterwards and slept for hours Daddy still felt like he needed a new toy. Looks like we are going to be those parents. He is now the proud owner of a glow seahorse, that I keep calling a sea monkey. Photos are on Scott's camera so I will post those later. His two month stats are:
Weight 12 lbs. 4.5 ounces, 63rd percentile
Height 23.75 inches, 78th percentile
Head 16.25 inches,80th percentile

We have added a new activity to our day and that is the bumbo seat! He likes being Mr. Independent and sitting on his own, take a look...

He also has found a paci he LOVES...classy, right? Scott says it's okay because the skull is smiling.

Things are slowing down on the work schedule for Scott, and I have plans to go back to work next month. We are heading out this morning for the Scarecrow contest in Danville and then Connor is going to spend some QT with Gramma Nella while Scott and I go shopping. If you are near Danville the scarecrows will be up through the 3rd weekend of October around the Courthouse Square. They are so creative! I'll try to post pics of our visit later this week. In other news, Scott and I will have our four year anniversary later this week on the 8th. Time flies, right?

Where does the time go?

When they tell you it goes fast once you have a baby, they aren't kidding! I can't believe it is already the end of September. Lots has happened since our last post with Connor so I'll just jump right in.

We had our Riley appointment on the 14th and met with Dr. S. He heard Connor's noises and recommended setting up some tests, and since Connor hadn't been fed yet they opted to do them that day since we were there. He had a brochoscopy and a nap study. Be forewarned the nap study photo isn't pretty but trust me he did just fine! It was just a lot of wires and tape sticking to him...take a look!

We headed back upstairs for a follow up with Dr. S and according to him they didn't see anything major, but diagnosed him with a moderate case of larengo malaysia. Basically his epiglotis is omega shaped and flops into the airway causing obstruction. At the time we left last week he wanted to see us back in a month for a follow up but again nothing major. Basically we left with some cool pictures of Connor's nose and throat. :)

Fast forward to yesterday and the nurse finally called with the "official" results of the nap study. Evidently they want to take the most extreme precautions because there were very few incidents of concern so now Connor is on an apnea monitor and oxygen while he sleeps. I'm coming to terms with it - I have some great stories on communication if you want to hear it - but I'm glad we have good insurance and we have the equipment and it's here if we need it. Connor doesn't mind it too much, I'm sure he will get used to it. He slept with the oxygen last night but by 7:30a this morning he'd had enough and got his arm out of the swaddle and pushed the oxygen off. I must say it was funny. We have a follow up sleep study in October, the follow up with Dr. S at the end of November and his 2-mo peditrician appt with baby Dr. B next week. We'll keep you posted.

Connor also enjoyed his first Monday Night Football game - the Colts eeked out a win. Here he is in all his Colts gear! Isn't he cute? The little black and white wires are for his monitor so they aren't too invasive. He evidently had control of the remote for the night too.

One Month Stats

We had our Baby Dr. B appointment on Monday this week and here's Connor's stats:

Weight 10 lbs. 1/2 ounce, 53rd percentile
Height 21.75 inches, 55th percentile
Head 15.66 inches,82nd percentile

Still rockin' the slightly larger noggin but that is too be expected. He's doing very well. He still has a little issue with the squeaking so we are going to Riley next week to meet with the pulmonary specialist just to make sure the floppy airway is correcting itself. That is on the 14th of this month.

Right now Connor is enjoying some fun on his activity mat, he starting to learn his arms and legs can do things! He's awake quite a bit more, except for yesterday. He had a rough day Weds so he had many naps yesterday which gave me some free time to update the blog design.

I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day Weekend, Scott is out at the track for the Mac Tools NHRA US Nationals. It is definitely the busiest week/weekend of the year for him. Gramma Nella is taking her first turn as babysitter so I can go to the event tonight - can't wait!

Awww...the difference a month makes!

So I chastise Scott for being a bad blogger and then I get to take the title. As Connor turned a month old yesterday he is awake a lot more and therefore I have less free time! Can you believe he is a month old already? He is getting so big...the photo below was taken last Wednesday, when he was 4 weeks to the day!

We have our one month well baby visit tomorrow and we're armed with a notebook of questions and I'm sure we will get all the answers tomorrow from baby Dr. B. Connor has gotten himself on a pretty good schedule - he takes a bottle every three or so hours about seven times a day. We are on night two of lots of sleep! He went to bed around 11:30 last night and got up about 7:00a. Yes, we know how lucky we are! I think it all starts with bath time...I think he likes it!

In other news the big brother turned two this past week! Yes, Yoshi got a little birthday party Thursday night. He got a birthday cake and some new toys. I'm sure he appreciated it!

We are off for a walk thru the neighborhood with baby and Yoshi. Wish us luck! BTW - I'll have lots of free time this week as the US Nationals start for Scott on Wednesday. Feel free to entertain me! :) Also, new photos are up on Flickr if you want to check them out, http://www.flickr.com/photos/40599101@N02/?sa.

At least I add photos

Well I may not blog as much as I should but at least I add new photos and videos to the Flickr account. You can see more pictures like the one to the left of him rocking his Fauxhawk on his three week birthday!

Connor has been so much fun to hang with and we are all learning about him with each new day. Last night we figured out he was tired around 11:30 and once we got the second arm secured it was lights out for Connor. The amazing thing is that he slept until 7 this morning! That is the longest he has slept and let mom and dad get a full nights sleep!

I'm off to start the moving process into our new office building so I will talk to you all later! Don't forget to go to our picture page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/40599101@N02/?saved=1!

Lazy Sunday

Well, I slept in til noon today, if you can call it that! Connor was up from 5:30a to 8:30a and then back up at 9:30a. Scott got up with him at 9:30 and I went back to sleep! I'm sure I will pay for it later but man it was worth it at the time!

All is well today, just hanging out at home. I've uploaded some new photos on the Flickr site (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40599101@N02/?saved=1) and Facebook if you want to check them out. Here are a few of our faves from the last week...

Back to birth weight!

Connor's weight check went well - he is back to birth weight, 8 lbs. 14 oz. He's getting so big! It does go fast. I also had my doctor's appointment, I'm fine and I have been cleared to drive. Thanks to Grandma Nancy for going along to Connor's appointment. We don't have a baby mirror for my car and I wasn't ready to travel with him by myself so Mom went along to entertain him. She did a great job!

I'm a model...

Connor had his first photo shoot on Sunday and he was a star! He was the perfect sleeping baby model so you will see most of his photos with his sleepy face. Our friend Michelle (Coleman) Tiek - www.michelletiekphotography.com - came over and did a great job getting some wonderful photos. If you are buddies with us on Facebook check them out on my profile if you get a minute. As soon as we get the CD, we will get them uploaded to Flickr.

In other news Scott went back to work Monday and my first two solo days have gone just fine! Connor definitely misses Daddy though. Tomorrow I have my 2-week check up from surgery and Connor has a weight check in the afternoon. We also took Connor out to dinner last night - his first big meal was at Monical's in Avon which was ironically the last place Scott and I went to dinner before he was born exactly two weeks ago. We also had guests today - Sarah, Tracy, Tiffany and Kia all came to meet him!

It's hard to believe our little baby is going to be two weeks old tomorrow, but also still stunning that just two weeks ago I was still at work and pregnant. We are still getting used to it, but it certainly is wonderful!

First Pediatrician Visit

First a photo because I know you just want to see the baby...here is a photo Scott took on his one week birthday.

Connor had his first pediatrician appointment on Thursday, he is doing so well! His weight has started going back up, he was 8 lbs. 7.5 oz and we go back next week for a weight check to make sure he is still growing. As much as he has been eating, I am pretty sure he will be fine! Our Doctor is another Dr. B so we will just call her Baby Dr. B so we don't get her confused with my Dr. B.

Things are going well at home - I keep asking Scott to post an update and by the time he gets a free moment it's time for bed! He heads back to work on Monday so I get to tackle Connor and Yoshi all by myself. Wish me luck!

We did get a chance to upload some photos to an online photo album - you can check it out here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/40599101@N02/

Most of the photos so far are from his first week. We have a friend of mine coming on Sunday to do a newborn photo shoot so I am sure we will have lots more in the coming weeks; not that we don't have a ton already!

We're home - and happy

We made it! We got home Saturday (the actual due date!) around 4:00 and so far so good! We had a fun ride home, it was just Scott, Connor and I. We are still in awe that we have a baby.

Connor has some very mild jaundice, Dr. F isn't too concerned but the poor guy has had way too many heel sticks lately. We were back yesterday for another, and go back again Thursday. Hopefully his bilirubin goes down and we can be done with that.

We have learned that it takes WAAAAYYYYYY longer to do things with a baby! We love it, but we haven't quite figured out how to time things yet. This is the third time I have tried to post. Between the sleeping (or lack thereof, the eating, the diaper changes, the clothes changes after he pees on us during the diaper changes, and the utter bewilderment it doesn't leave time for much else!

We are all well and our family is so grateful for everyone's love and support. We have some video and probably 1,000 photos...we will get those uploaded ASAP so you can all enjoy our little baby.

Amazed

That's all I can really say! :) I got a photo of his eyes open as he turned 24 hours old last night; doesn't he look sooooo serious?

As we start on Day two of having Connor around (he is off getting circumcised right now...I'm sure he is NOT enjoying it!) it is still just so unbelievable. He is so adorable and is doing so well. We are very, very blessed to have such a healthy little guy. We had a bit of an issue with blood sugars when he was first born, but that cleared up within an hour and then today they keep checking him for jaundice, but it clears up on the second test. Hopefully he will keep eating and that will quickly become a non-issue.

We have had so many wonderful guests - as a matter of fact Mr. Dawes just left. He and Dr. Sparzo have stopped by a few times and we really appreciate it. Emiley was by last night, my friend Lori came then night before she moved to Minnesota (miss you already!) Lynne has been here, Debbie, Jan & Doug and of course the grandparents!! Be sure to tell Grampie Jim and Grandma Nanny congrats along with Gramma Nella and Grandpa Vinnie. Rumor has it Uncle Jason will be by today, along with Great-Grandpa Bob, Cory, Jackie and maybe Great-Grandma Mary Ann.

We should be going home tomorrow afternoon as long as things continue to go well. I am recovering just fine from the c-section - it isn't as bad as I expected. I'm very grateful Dr. B chose to do it when he did, I think that is why I can get up and around so well. The nurses and the docs have all been wonderful! The only not so wonderful group is the photographers - but Sarah B. warned me on that one! :o) We'll want some newborn photos once we get home - does anyone have a suggestion?

I am going to try and catch a quick nap while the baby and Daddy are away. Wish me luck! We are looking forward to seeing you all soon and thank you so much for all your well wishes and prayers through this journey. We love it.

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Well I wanted to let everyone know that baby Connor Robert Smith arrived today at 6:09 p. m.!  He was 8 pounds 14 ounces, 21 inches long and is ha
ppy and healthy!  Mom is doing well and taking a nap so she can get so much needed rest.

We, well Jaime, had him C-section and that was quite a whirlwind.  We went from two people with not a care in the world to PARENTS in like 25 minutes.  I think when one doctor asked if DAD wanted to hold him I think I said, "Who, me?"  It was so amazing watching all the people check him out and make sure he was doing well but once they put him in my arms it felt so amazing and such a strong connection.  I know he doesn't know me from Adam but the when I talk to him he does seem to calm down a bit so maybe the time talking to him before he was born was helpful.  I have fed him
and while that isn't my strong suit I'm sure I will get the hang of it.  I'm also a little nervous when I hold him but I don't think I'm going to break him.

I do have to say that all the people at Hendricks Regional Health have been nothing but amazing.  It is neat that we have known most of the people that have cared for us but all the doctors, nurses, staff, etc. have been great to us.  It was pretty cool having the CEO and the second in charge stop by your room to see how your doing!  It is true, They do Treat People better...

It's Baby Day!

Well...the calm before actual baby day is today! I've been up since about 7:00 am getting some last minute things done (I had no idea how many parts make up a teeny tiny 5 oz. Born Free bottle - whose idea was that!?!?!) while Scott is still sleeping. He needs his rest - I'm sure we will have a busy few days ahead of us.

Above is one of the final pregnancy photos - it was taken Sunday July 26th at 39 weeks and 1 day. I am still so surprised I made it to 39 weeks and just grateful that we are going to be welcoming a big healthy baby sometime tomorrow. Yes, that is an O'Reilly Raceway Park sticker on my belly - Scott put it there during the races Saturday night as a 'sponsorship' opportunity.

We will head to the hospital about 4:00 pm today and start the induction. Nothing will really happen until tomorrow - Scott has his account all set up so he will update the blog accordingly. We also have a pretty big email/text/call list so you should hear from us one way or another very soon! The blog will be your best bet for more info.

Thanks for all the well wishes, good thoughts and the prayers through our 2 1/2 years of infertility, the 9 months of pregnancy and the upcoming two days of labor and delivery. We are so grateful for all of you and are excited for you to meet our new little guy!

Whew

What a busy weekend of racing and NASCAR is out of town for another year.  It will now be nice to relax and take some time off because I'm sure bringing home a little one will mean TONS of extra sleep for us! ;-)

T minus 3 days and counting...

Now that I have come to terms with it I am ready to update and let everyone know of our new 'plans'. The doctor's appointment was mostly good on Tuesday, Dr. B. was back from vacation. We had our ultrasound first, and lo and behold the baby is plenty B I G...maybe a bit *too* big for my liking! He is currently measuring 9 lbs. 7 oz. which was a complete surprise to us!

So, induction is scheduled for Tuesday 7/28. We will go in that night and then really start things on Wednesday. According to the doc, he should be here sometime Wednesday! So, guessing game is over for now... :)

Scott is out at the track right now, and has been all day since Thursday. I've gotten a bit of break this year, I'm heading out this evening for the actual race - the Kroger 200 Nationwide Race. Tomorrow will be a flurry of last minute get ready activity then Monday will be my last day in the office until November. I can't believe the day is almost here.

We'll post more soon - keep watching for the big news!

Guessing game to go with the waiting game

Today marks 38 weeks and 1 day - it's going by pretty slowly here at the end, at least to me. I hear that is normal. I figure since we are playing the 'waiting game' you all might want to play a guessing game!

By clicking on the link below you can register a guess for when baby smith gets here! I'll give you the first answer - it's a boy :) and the due date is in less than two weeks, August 1st.

http://www.expectnet.com/games/Our1stSmithBaby

Our doctor's appointment was pretty uneventful last week - we saw Dr. K and she was way behind so we waited over an hour for a five minute appointment. Heartbeat was good, measurements were good, all was well. We have our next appointment on Tuesday now that Dr. B is back in town. I'm just glad we made it through this week while he was gone.

Don't forget SpeedFest is fast approaching! Scott would remind you to buy tickets. With the race coming this weekend maybe we should guess which lap as opposed to which date! Check out the O'Reilly Raceway Park blog on the right to see more on SpeedFest.

Laundry Day!

It poured rain all day today so we finally starting washing baby clothes. First, it is completely overwhelming. You go from one extreme to another! As you start piling clothes, blankets, bibs, socks, sheets into a laundry basket it looks like it is way too much stuff for a tiny baby. Then, it comes out of the dryer, you fold it and put it away and it looks like there is nothing there!

We have learned we have plenty of blankets, were okay on onsies and outfits but he has no pants. Well, I shouldn't say none...I should be honest and say four. That should last a day or two right? :) Good thing he will be here in the summer or he would freeze!

We did have an appointment earlier this week - everything was just fine. The heartbeat was still 150 and the little guy was moving all over the place. Dr. B has to chase him around to get a lock on it. We think he's shy - not too sure where that would have come from though! Our next appointment is Thursday the 16th with Dr. K then back with Dr. B on the 21st when will start picking a date! Get your picks in now - leave us a comment and share you baby arrival guess! I'm 37 weeks even today...only a few weeks to go.

35 weeks 4 days and counting...

I had a good doctor's appointment yesterday, everything was fine which is good news. It appears that the big day is a moving target as the new tentative induction week is after SpeedFest. That would be during week 39, the week of July 27th. However that could change week to week. :) If we make it to our week 38 appointment on July 21st we will have our final ultrasound and if all is well they will schedule the induction. However it could all change next week so stay tuned!

Tonight we did a little work in the nursery and hung some stuff on the walls and put the diaper genie together. I think Scott was a bit disappointed that the Diaper Genie isn't motorized some how but I'm sure it will work just fine! We also put the 'netting' over the crib and that seems to be working well. Bucky and Callie just can't stand the excitement so we are hoping if we keep the door open and the crib covered it won't be so exciting to them anymore! We'll try to post some photos this weekend.

I'm pretty tired...they weren't kidding when they said the the last few weeks aren't as much fun as the middle weeks! I'm off to bed - start telling Scott to post more. I know his stories are better than mine!

Appointment Update

Things went well on Tuesday for the recent Doctor's appointment and the funny thing is he cleared me to travel for one more week! That is why this post is so late...I'm out of town! Scott had to travel to Norwalk OH for the Summit Nationals this weekend and we found out his hotel room was at the Kalahari Waterpark and Resort in Sandusky. Well, we figured I could sit at home or I could come here and sit by the pool so here we are! Check this place out - http://www.kalahariresorts.com/oh/

Anyway, what you are all waiting for....the growth scan went very well. Little guy is estimated at 5 lbs. 11 oz. with a huge head. :) Scott always note that could be a pound off either way so Scott seems to think he is closer to 4 lbs and I think he's closer to 6. He's in the 63rd percentile for size so that is fantastic news given the clotting disorder. We also discussed our plans for getting the baby here. Because of the medications I take we may be looking at an induction and that would probably be around week 38 which is the week of SpeedFest (shhhhh....don't tell yet!). We'll see how this plays out. For sure, it will be no more than five weeks away!!

On another note I am completely absorbed with the Michael Jackson coverage. I'm anxious to get to Mom and Dad's to take a look at the scrapbook my Grandma made me when I was much, much younger when I was huge MJ fan. I still love his music, and I am disappointed Tiffany and I will never have the chance to see him in concert together. My Mom took Jason and I when I was in sixth grade (I think) to see the Man in the Mirror tour at Market Square Arena and I think that is where I fell in love with live music. It is certainly a sad day for his family and his fans.

Don't worry Dad....Michael will not surpass Armando as a possible baby name. Now Jackson might have a chance...:)

Father's Day Shopping Spree

Happy Father's Day! Scott is enjoying the last hours of his first real father's day. Sure he's gotten cards and gifts from the animals before but I'm sure he appreciates onsies and baby socks that will be worn by a human soon. His Mom got him some really nice Colts things that he got to open before they left on vacation. He got a few more Colts things today - including a matching jersey for game day! They don't make those smaller than 12 mos that I could find so hopefully our little guy won't mind posing for a few photos with it all pinned up in the back!

We spent most of the day in Greenwood doing some last minute shopping to get ready for baby. Yes, we still have six weeks til our due date but sometimes that doesn't seem all that far away! We picked up a few things at Buy Buy Baby that we needed (including that first aid kit I was so worried about!) and also picked up a few things on sale at Babies R Us. We did go to Target yesterday and used a lot of our gift cards to pick up the Soothing Center that Scott really, REALLY wanted for the baby. I think we have all the necessities for bringing baby home now - but I still have to organize it and put it away which is actually a fun process for me.

You want to see why I'm starting to understand the reality of a baby getting here soon? It's quite obvious to me now! Back in April at 26 weeks I starting 'showing'...or so I thought. This was about 10 weeks after I had to be wearing maternity clothes all the time. Then at 29 weeks which was right around graduation I knew I was more obviously pregnant because we had a bit of trouble with the graduation gown - I wasn't sure it would fit through the end of the day! Well...take a look at the photo Scott took of me today at 34 weeks 1 day....

Yep, there's a baby in there. We have our doctor's appointment on Tuesday and we are having our next growth scan. At 26 weeks he was 2 lbs. 9 oz and in the 88th percentile for growth. Any guesses for what he'll be this week? :)

Ready as we'll ever be! (According to our instructor...)

Scott and I finished our prenatal classes this week at Hendricks Regional Health. We took the two week labor and delivery class and then a Saturday morning Caring for your newborn class. They were all pretty interesting; Scott says he learned a lot!

The L&D classes really weren't my cup of tea; I figure I have no control over the situation so why worry? For those that know my control freak nature this probably surprises you but I do recognize when it just isn't worth it to worry. :) The good news is not too much surprised me so I think at least I have a realistic expectation. I'm pretty sure it's uncomfortable so I will just go with that. We were the oldest ones in there by a good five years though. Scott thought (and I agree) that they were very informative. Oh - ask us about the forceps sometime. Turns out my Doc is the ONLY ONE in the hospital who still uses them on a regular basis. NICE. :)

Caring for your newborn was more interesting to me; they brought in a 2-day little guy for us to meet. He was a little thing weighing just 6lbs 11 oz. It's hard to believe we will have one of those soon! Now we weren't the oldest ones in that class; evidently us older folk are more scared of the baby that the labor and delivery!!

The nursery is coming along; we have put a lot of the wonderful gifts away and Scott even put together the stroller and car seat this weekend. I think we may be treking down to Greenwood on Sunday to pick up some things we are still missing from the registry...I have my BuyBuyBaby coupons and I am ready to shop! Our next doctor's appointment is Tuesday and we start going weekly from here til the end. We have an ultrasound too - I am very anxious to see how big he is! At 20 weeks he was 2 lbs. 9 oz. and estimated in the 88th percentile which was pretty big given my clotting disorder. I hope he is still growing strong but not TOO strong!

Scott should post soon don't you think? He tells stories much better than I do. I'll get some photos up over the weekend, right now I hear my bed calling my name....

Baby shower pics!

Boy the work week gets hectic! While I always plan to update through the week it just gets away from me. I am more and more tired every day and this week was a busy one. Scott got home Monday, we had a Labor & Delivery class Tuesday, installed the new closet system in the nursery Wednesday, HC Night with the Indians Thursday and dinner with Scott's mom Friday! Today we have our Newborn care class then Scott has to be at work around 2:00 and I have to be there by 5:30. These long days are going to be the end of me!

Without further ado...some pics from the baby shower last weekend!

The amazing cake from the shower...it was delicious! And yes, it came from Sam's Club. Emiley made a great pick!

Here I am opening one of the many presents...sorry it took so long!! You all were so generous; we are so grateful!

Here is the quilt that Mimi made and sent to us - isn't it beautiful! I believe this makes great grandchild 21 for her. THANK YOU!!

From left: Jackie, Jaime and Emiley. These two are the ones who planned my shower. They did an amazing job!!

Me and Gramma Nella (aka, Annella, Scott's mom)

Me and my Mom (aka, Nancy who hasn't decided what the baby will call her yet! Evidently he gets to choose.)

Here are all the presents in the nursery once we got home! This is just 2/3rd's of them. I couldn't get a photo of the other side with the 20+ packages of diapers and the giant gift bags! Thanks again everyone!!

Bad Blogger!

Boy have we been bad bloggers! After graduation started a crazy month of baby prep, work, weekend events and an unexpected surprise!

After graduation we had our first race at ORP that night, so both Scott and I had to work. The next weekend was my birthday on the 17th and we also had a little party to celebrate my graduation. So many of our friends and family stopped by - I was so grateful! Here is a photo from the party when we cut the cake. Word to the wise - dark navy blue icing turns your entire mouth and tongue blue! It was so fun - the party and the cake.

The very next weekend was the Indy 500 and most of you know that is Scott's very favorite day of the year. We had the TourHendricksCounty.com Night before the 500 at ORP on Saturday and then Sunday Scott and our friends Mike & Jenn headed out at 7:20 am to get to IMS for the big race! This was the first one I missed since 2001, so of course Helio finally won his third! We did establish that Scott needs to sleep more before heading out and that next year the drinking will need to be curbed a bit with a baby to take care of once we get home.

Last weekend my friends Deb & Jan threw me a PDK baby shower and I had a wonderful time. My cake was too cute and it was very nice to spend time with all my PDK buds. We got lots of things for Baby Smith - I'm sure he will be a good future member! Here is a slideshow of some photos below:

On that same day my co-worker who was due July 28th just three days before me welcomed her baby girl just a tad early. Both mom and baby are doing fine, baby is just tiny. It came as a surprise and we had TONS to do a work that she had planned. Therefore I spent a fair bit more time working these last two weeks followed by couch time and sleep since it did wear me out. Sometimes I forget that I am pregnant!

Tomorrow (6/6) I will be 32 weeks with only 8 weeks to go! I still can't believe it's really happening. Fingers crossed everything keeps moving along well. We start labor and delivery classes on Tuesday, a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and a Newborn care class next Saturday. I'm sure Scott will have something to say about that!

Sorry again for the length between posts - we'll try to be better. I'm sure you will all stick around until the main event - baby Smith's big arrival. :)
